5 Tips for Transitioning from Contacts to Glasses

5 Tips for Transitioning from Contacts to Glasses

Thinking of making the switch from contacts to glasses? Great idea! While contacts are great, there are numerous benefits to wearing glasses instead. Glasses tend to be more affordable, they’re fashionable, they make a statement, protect your eyes from the sun and even dust particles, and so much more.

Despite these benefits, you might still be feeling a little worried about how easy it’ll be to make the switch. You’ll now have to get used to having the frames resting on your face, and, in the beginning, it may feel like your peripheral vision is a little obstructed by the arms of the frames.

Luckily, we’ve got five top tips to help make the transition from contacts to glasses as seamless as possible.

1) Try your glasses on first thing

When you get up in the morning, be sure to try on your glasses as soon as possible. Doing this will help get the eyes used to looking through the lenses and prevent any eye symptoms from coming up during the day. It also helps you adjust to wearing glasses before starting your normal daily activities.

2) Make sure your frames fit nicely

Nobody likes having tight pair of frames squish against their temples or press down on the bridge of their nose. Nor does anyone enjoy having loose glasses slipping down their nose every 30 seconds. So, to help ensure a smooth transition from contact lenses to glasses, be sure to take your frames to the optometrist and get them adjusted.

3) Have a test before changing over to glasses

This may seem like an obvious one, but you really do need to go for an eye test at the optometrist before trading in your contacts for glasses. Even if you know your prescription, you won’t necessarily have the same prescription level for your glasses.

This is because, when you’re wearing contacts, you’re staring through the lens’s optical center. But, when it comes to glasses, you’ll only be looking through the center of the lens when focusing your eyes straight ahead.

4) Always keep a lens cloth on hand

As most glasses wearers would agree, there’s nothing worse than getting a speck of dust or smudge on the lens of a pair of glasses.

To prevent any unnecessary frustration on your part, be sure to have a lens cloth with you at all times. This way, you can easily clean any smudges or specks of dust from your glasses, leaving you with crystal clear vision.

5) Buy a solid, sturdy case to store your glasses

Dirty glasses may be a pain, but it’s got nothing on scratched lenses. Not only do scratched lenses obstruct your vision, but it also means you have to get the lenses replaced, which is really just an unnecessary expense.

So, to keep your glasses in tip-top shape, get yourself a solid case where you can keep them safe when you’re nothing wearing them.

With these five tips, you’ll be transitioning from contacts to glasses in no time. We’re sure you’ll love the freeing feeling of wearing glasses instead of contacts.
